Volunteering on the Arts & Crafts Project with WIN NEPAL
The majority of your time as a volunteer will be spent working alongside local artists in the workshop. They will teach you local pottery practices and show you how to make earrings, bracelets, and other jewelry using materials such as shells and beads. You will also learn how to print T-shirts and how to make batik, a traditional decorative fabric.
Volunteers then put the skills they have gained in the workshop to good use visiting local orphanages. By encouraging the young artists and nurturing their talents, you can help them build a future for themselves through their artwork and the confidence they gain.
This project is not a full time project so we recommend combining it with a few more hours of work per week. For those interested in learning about Tharu dance , you can take lessons to gain greater insight into Tharu culture. These lessons are perfect for enthusiastic and creative volunteers who have a musical flair. Music is at the heart of Tharu culture, so those with a passion for music will find this placement both enjoyable and rewarding.
The Arts & Crafts project is available for less than a month if you don’t have time to join us for a month or more. This project has been selected by our local colleagues as being suitable for shorter durations for both the host community and the volunteer. Although you will gain valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community please be aware that you may not be able to make the same impact as someone participating for a longer period.
